Biography

James was born at Scituate 12 Nov 1734. He was baptized 15 Jun 1735. He was the son of Josiah Litchfield.[1]

James lived in Hingham, Cohasset,[2] and Scituate. [1]

He married Hannah Pratt 15 May 1760 at Hingham by Rev Daniel Shute.[3]

He was a Revolutionary soldier. He served as a private in Capt Obadiah Beal's company in 1776.[1]

He was a farmer.

He was one of the first constables and collectors of the town of Cohasset when first incorporated 26 Apr 1770.

He lived in the Beechwoods.

He was 1-0-1 in the 1790 census.

James died 5 Apr 1812.[3]

His son Noah Litchfield declined to be administrator for his father's will. Hayward Peirce, Esq. was appointed by the court as administrator with the will appended. The personal property was not sufficient ot pay the debts and legacies, and in 1813 the adminiatrator was empowered to sell real estate to cover the deficiency.[3]
