Biography

Abigail Litchfield is wife of patriot James Bates. Children in patriot file: Abigail who m. Shubael Tower, Benjamin who m. Hannah Kelley, Priscilla who m. David Jepson.[1]

The birth date given is suspect; not found in Scituate records. Pane Joyce gives her birth date as circa 1747, Named for her paternal grandmother, Abigail may have been the second child of that name for her parents. Two marriage records can be found in Scituate records., one being Dec 15 1764 and the other probably Jan 4 1765, both to James Bates. One may be the actual ceremony recorded, and the earlier being the intention or the banns. Abigail may have lived in Cohasset and Hingham MA. I have not found her death record.
