Grandpa Littlefield was named for the son of John Deere - Charles Deere. John and CD's father, James Edwin Littlefield, were friends. They all lived in Moline for a time where the John Deere factory was built. The first John Deere steel plow was tested at the farm of Luke & Lewis Crandall in Whiteside Co., IL. Charles' wife, Clara was the daughter of Helen Crandall (the daughter of Lewis) and Joseph Littlefield. Also, Charles Deere Littlefield's brother, Winslow, worked at the John Deere factory but sadly, died by drowning on vacation. So we have connections to John Deere with both Charles and Clara. by cbaudrand- great-granddaughter
