Biography

Wilmot Melissa Littlejohn was born on 24 Jul 1859 in Mariposa, Victoria, Canada West (Ontario). [1][2][3]

On 14 Jan 1861 Wilmot was living with her parents in Mariposa, Victoria County, Canada West (Ontario), British North America.[4]

On 2 Apr 1871 she was living with her parents in Ops, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. Her father's occupation was Farmer.[3]

On 4 Apr 1881 she was living with her parents in Ops, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. Her father's occupation was Farmer.[5]

On 8 June 1881 Wilmot, age 21, married Thomas John Budd in Lindsay, Victoria, Ontario, Canada. Her residence at the time of marriage was Ops, Victoria County.[1] Their wedding was the second of three between the Budd and Littlejohn families. In 1878 Thomas's sister Elizabeth had married Wilmot's brother John. Later Thomas's sister Minnie married Wilmot's brother Thomas.

In about 1889 Thomas and Wilmot immigrated to Pembina County, North Dakota, United States, along with many members of their extended Budd and Littlejohn families.

On 1 June 1900 Thomas and Wilmot were living in Saint Thomas, Pembina, North Dakota, United States, with five children. Thomas's occupation was Farmer.[6]

In about 1909 Thomas and Wilmot returned to Canada and they separated around that time.[7]

On 1 June 1911 Wilmot was living with her two youngest children in Macdonald, Manitoba, Canada. Her occupation was Housekeeper.[7]

Wilmot died on 17 Feb 1917 in Fielding, Saskatchewan, Canada.[2] She was probably living with her daughter Gladys at the time of her death (Gladys was married in Fielding in 1914).[8] She was buried in Fielding Cemetery.[2]

Research Notes

Family trees use various spellings for Wilmot/Willmot/Wilmont and Melissa/Malissa, but since her marriage record is the only official source for her name, this is the preferred source unless a birth record is located.

The exact birthdate of 24 Jul 1859 was found on her FindAGrave memorial. There is no headstone photo. This information likely comes from the memorial author, Just M, who has collected extensive family records. The birth month July appears in numerous census records. The year of birth is inconsistent but 1859 is a match with the 1871 and 1881 census records as well as the marriage record (age 21 at the time of marriage).

The exact date of death was found on her FindAGrave memorial. The death record is not available from Saskatchewan Vital Records as of Oct 2017, but will probably be added soon.
