Biography

William Metherell Littlejohns was born on 9 Sep 1849 in Marystow, Devon, England.[1][2][3] He was the second son of Humphry and Harriet Littlejohns and was named after his maternal grandfather, William Metherel.

On 30 Mar 1851 William was living with his parents in Marystow, Devon, England. His father's occupation was Agricultural Labourer.[2]

In about 1855 William's family immigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario), British North America.[4] They were likely part of a large exodus of Bible Christian Methodists from Devon and Cornwall.[5]

After immigrating William also used the surname "Littlejohn."

On 2 Apr 1871 William was living with his parents in Ops, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. His father's occupation was listed as Farmer.[7]

On 8 Oct 1878 William married Catherine (aka Katie) Ann McLeod in Woodville, Victoria, Ontario, Canada. His residence at the time of marriage was Fenelon and his occupation was Farmer.[8]

In 1882 William and Katie immigrated to Dakota Territory, United States.[9] They were joined by many members of the extended Budd and Littlejohn families.

In 1 Jun 1885 William and Katie were living in the Dakota Territory, United States, with three children, and two of William's brothers. William's occupation was Farmer.[10]

On 15 Apr 1900 William and Katie were living in Midland, Pembina, North Dakota, United States, with eight children. William's occupation was Farmer.[9]

On 1 Apr 1910 William and Katie were living in Midland, Pembina, North Dakota, United States, with six children. William's occupation was Farmer.[11]

William and Katie had 14 children; 10 survived to adulthood.[11][12] William was widowed by Katie's death in 1911.

William died on 14 Nov 1926 in Neche, Pembina, North Dakota, United States.[1][13] He was buried in Saint Thomas Cemetery, Saint Thomas, Pembina County.[13]
