John Litton Sr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A202089.

John Lutton was born in 1726. He is the son of Caleb Letton and his wife Grace. He was christened on 4 July 1726 in Frederick, Maryland.[1] He served as an officer (Lieutenant) in the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. He married Sarah Ann Ann (Wilcoxen) Litton on 3 May 1745 in Botetourt Co., VA. They had nine or more children.

John was a barrister and jurer. From 1771-1773 john Richard Letton is often found as a jurer in Botetout Co., VA (Annals of Southwestern Virginia by Lewis Preston Summers). John Richard Letton is mentioned as one of the militiamen under Summers and Caleb is listed under Selby on page 200 of Katherine Keogh White’s book “The King’s Mountain Men”. Information at Washington Historical Society says that the John Litton listed as a mulitiaman at the Battle of King’s Mountain in 1781, is John Richard Litton father of Solomon. John was born 4 July 1726 in Prince George Co., MD. He moved to Botetourt Co., VA about 1740 and married there on 3 May 1745 to Sarah Jane Wilcoxen. She was born 29 Feb 1728 in Montgomery Co., MD. John served in the Rev. War. (as a lieutenant) as did all of his brothers. John and Sarah are said to have had these children, Elizabeth, Brilliance/Bellicent, Emeline, James Edward, Solomon Caleb, Burton, Nancy, Hamilton, Thomas, and John--and perhaps others. John was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He died 3 Jan 1804 and she died Jan 1808, both in Russell Co., VA. They are both buried in Solomon Litton Hollow Cem., Russell Co., VA. The Thomas Brown who married Nancy Litton is Y DNA Group 40 at the Brown DNA Project. We hope to be able to connect that Thomas Brown to other known ancestors in that Brown family. Many of the other Brown ancestors are known to be out of Cumberland Co., VA.
