Edinburgh parish baptism record for James Feb. 28 1675 gives dob of Feb. 22 and lists parents as William Livingston and Anna Veitch (official ScotlandsPeople OPR ref. 685/1 70 508). Image attached.
James and brother Andrew were officers in the Darien expedition. The Livingstons of Livingston Manor; Edwin Brockholst Livingston; Knickerbocker Press; 1910, p. 52.
Uncle James, in letter to uncle Robert Apr. 1 1700, says Andrew held captive in Carthagina in Colombia (https://www.gilderlehrman.org/collection/glc0310700539)
His son’s unpublished ‘autobiography’ says James was in Scotland at a ‘desk job’ during the Darien scheme and moved to Rotterdam later to be a bookbinder.
It is noteworthy that James does not appear in a list of the Company’s administrative ‘establishment’ as of Nov. 1696 that includes even very low-level employees (Darien Papers p. 30).
His grandfather John was exiled to Rotterdam in 1663 and died there in 1672.
