Biography

William (Livingston) Livingston IIIrd of Kilsyth is a member of Clan Livingstone.
Roll of Honor
William (Livingston) Livingston IIIrd of Kilsyth was killed in Action during the War of the League of Cambrai at the Battle of Flodden Field.

William Livingston was the eldest son and heir to Edward Livingston, Lord of Balcastell.[1][2] His mother is not clear, according to a manuscript pedigree of the Viscount Teviot, a cadet of Kilsyth (this line), in the Lyon Office, Edinburgh, this Edward Livingston married a daughter of Thomas Erskine, Lord Erskine, but proof is wanting, and as his eldest son, this William, married a daughter of Lord Erskine's sister, there may be some confusion between them. William was likely born about 1460 as he is age by 1483. His father died prior to 1 October 1483 when he is mentioned as the deceased Edward Livingston of Balcastell.

In 1483, William obtained sasine of the lands of Killinsyth (Kilsyth) and Glasswellis.

In 1486, 26 October, he was retoured heir of his father in the lands of Graden in Berwickshire.

In 1496, 8 May, William Livingston of Balcastell claimed Castleton and Ballimalloch, in the lordship of Kilsyth, as son and heir of the late occupier, Edward Livingston of Balcastell. James Livingston, 3rd Lord Livingston of Callendar, also claimed the same title and the suit resulted in an agreement where Lord James should have the lands in heritage and William Livingston in feu-farm from him.

He married Elizabeth Graham.[3] He is said to have had three sons:

  1. William. He will inherit the titles.
  2. John.
  3. William[4]

William fell at Flodden, 9 September 1513. A service of his son and heir in the lands above-mentioned, dated 15 March 1514, bears that Alexander, Master of Livingston, gave seisin to his cousin William Livingston of Kilsyth, as son and heir of the late William Livingston of Kilsyth, "qui obiit sub vexillo Regis in campo bellico apud Northumberland" (that died under the Standard of the King in the war in Northumberland).
