Biography

James was born in 1845. He was the son of John Locke and Ann Elliott. He passed away in 1914. Obituary 1914 “It is with deep regret we announce the death of Mr. James Locke who passed away at Kanimbla Private Hospital in the early hours of yesterday morning. The deceased, who was 69 years of age, at the time of his death, was a very old resident of Warwick, and was amongst its best known figures. He was the fourth son of the late Mr. John Locke, and was born on the Hunter River in 1845. He was only four years of age when he accompanied his parents to Warwick, where he spent a lifetime of usefulness which won him the highest esteem and respect of the whole community. The pursuits he entered into were varied, and included lime burning at Silverwood as well as grazing and farming. He was a successful breeder of horses. Years ago he took a great interest in the shows of the Eastern Downs Society, and though of a modest, reserved character he was able to exercise an influence in affairs which deepened the respect all felt for him. For a considerable time he lived in a house at the top of Guy-street and then removed to Rosenthal where he built a fine home. He leaves a family of four sons and six daughters, all of whom are married, to mourn their irreparable loss. He is also survived by five sisters—Mrs. Goggins, Guy-street, Mrs. Stidolph, Guy street, Mrs. Arthur Gillam, Mill Hill, Mrs. Beatty, Pratten-street,and Miss A. Locke, Percy-street—as well as two brothers Mr Albert Locke, Brisbane, and Mr. John Locke, North Queensland). The funeral takes place to the Warwick cemetery at 3 o'clock this afternoon.” Warwick Argus 3rd August 1914[1][2][3]

Locke-1478 and Locke-932 appear to represent the same person because: Dates are very close as are the locations.
