Biography

Mary Jane was born in Back Creek Valley, Frederick County, Virginia, USA[1][2][3][4] where she met and married Sydnor McDonald on 1 May 1845 in Frederick, Virginia [5] She was the daughter of Josiah Lockhart and Nancy Lee ODell.

She remained in Back Creek Valley her entire life.

When her father Josiah died, she received one share of his estate, and had already received a slave, Sallie prior to Josiah's death.

Sydnor was a merchant and had stores throughout the area. They made their home on the North West Turnpike, in sight of the "hanging rock".

Mary Jane died Feb 6 1867.[6][7][8]
