My interest in tracing the family tree fortunately began when my grandparents were still alive & I was able to ask them what they remembered which was about their grandparents. From there through the years it has snow-balled at times to almost an obsession. I think for a person to really know yourself you have to know where you came from. What really was an eye opener was when I proposed my father & I take DNA tests, I think Dad was pleased to find out he hailed back to the fifth century century warlord king Niall of the Nine Hostages but then so do 1 out of 10 men in Ireland & Scotland. In my research I have discovered my father's line of the family were some of the first Scots-Irish immigrants who settled in the Shenandoah Valley & hills of the Appalachians to hack a living out of the wilderness. My mother's side were farming pioneers in Canada with ties to Wales, Ireland, France & Germany. One ancestor is quite a colorful character by the name of Major William Kingdom Rains but that is another story. My main passion has been sorting out who is who in the Lockhart family tree since that is my name and figuring out my Scots-Irish heritage. It has been quite a journey which started in Northern Ireland and ended up in America from the eastern coast to the West and its not over yet.

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors?
Let me know. I can help you figure out if there's a project and introduce you to the project leaders.
Guy - Mentor & Volunteer Coordinator
Age at death: Contact Greg via the resources for clarification of this. I think you may be confusing a daughter with this gal. Not sure without digging into her more but he his by far the expert on this particular line, in my opinion.

Feel very welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site youve ever used. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team! What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research youd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, youll see a Volunteer option on your profile page. Click that and leave us a short message about your genealogical interests. A Greeters Project volunteer will be happy to confirm your membership, and youll be on your way! Welcome to the family! Were really glad youre here.
