Thomas was born in Co. Down, Ireland.
Mary Sturgeon married Thomas Lockhart in 1840 at the Knocknamuckley Church Of Ireland, Portadown, Craigavon, Armagh. [1]
According to descendants he immigrated to Canada West in 1852.
In 1861 the Lockhart family lived at Lot 16 Concession 4 Kinloss Twp, Co. of Bruce, Canada West in a frame house built in 1860.[2] Thomas Lockhart (37) Farmer & Mary Lockart (37) with John Lockhart (15) labourer, Richard Lockhart (13), James Lockhart (11), Betsy Lockhart (7) all born in Ireland, Thomas Lockhart (3) & A.J. Lockhart (5) and William Lockhart (1) all born in Upper Canada.
Thomas Lockhart purchased his 100 acres of land from the crown in 1874 although he was residing on it before 1861.
Thomas was a farmer.
Obituary of Thomas Lockhart age 76 appeared in Lucknow Sentinel on Friday Sept 7, 1900. According to the obituary Thomas reared eleven children and was survived by sons John and William in Rainy River ON, Thomas in Manitoba, Ezekial and Andrew farming in Kinloss and two daughters, also his wife who was living on their homestead with a granddaugher.
(This 2 volume history is very fine for researching family history and genealogy in Kinloss as an attempt was made to include every owner and occupant of every lot in the township, since it was surveyed about 1850.)
