William was born about 1827 at Ramsay Township, Upper Canada (later called Canada West, and still later called Ontario).
He is the son of John Lockhart and Jane McMillan, who migrated to Canada in 1821.
William appears to have died in 1851, age just 23 or 24, still at Ramsay Township, and was buried at Auld Kirk Cemetery. (Ramsay is now called Mississippi Mills, Ontario.)
