Biography

Elizabeth's private baptism to these parents on 5 Oct 1817 in Combe St. Nicholas is of public record[1]. Private baptisms were requested when some question of the viability of life was raised. Whatever the circumstance, Elizabeth was later formally received into the church on 26 Oct 1817. William's occupation is shown as baker.

Elizabeth's marriage record in the summer of 1841 is of public record[2].

Elizabeth signed her marriage certificate[3]. The marriage was witnessed by her sister and brother, Simeon and Anna (Hannah). Giles was listed as widower, farmer, of full age. Elizabeth was listed as spinster, of full age.

Seven children are recorded between 1842 and 1857 to this couple. Between 1858 and 1864, husband Giles went to Colorado, United States, were he remained until death in 1888. Elizabeth lists herself widowed in the 1871 census, which we take to mean abandoned. No record of Elizabeth has been found post 1871 in Somerset.

DNA

  • Autosomal DNA connections are discovered via company "A" DNA service.
  • Note: Company "A" does not reveal chromosome and segment detail. Triangulation can only be partial there, by pairwise reports of Timber-weighted shared ancestry (all testers demonstrate shared DNA with one another, with false positives (IBS) greatly reduced by Timber). Paper trails and shared DNA weighted length add compelling support. Unfortunately, none of the matches appears to be on the GEDmatch site, and none has so far responded to messages.
  • A maternal auDNA match is found
    • Matching DNA was found between Elizabeth's g-g-grandson Weldon Smith, and Weldon's triangulating?, non-Wikitree cousins, SB, AW, and JB. (Several other cousins also match also match Weldon in this lineage).
    • The MRCA between Weldon and each of these identified cousins is William Long and Susannah Follett. These are Elizabeth's parents, and the paths of the triangulated? descendants pass through her and her siblings Charles and Phillip Daniel.
    • Weldon and SB share 48 cM of DNA across 4 segments; predicted 4th-6th cousin; actual 3rd cousin (1x removed)
      • The lineage from SB to MRCA is SB<-PRV<-William Ilett<-Charles Ilett<-Charles Ilett<-Elizabeth (Ilett) Long<-Susannah Follett (MRCA)
    • Weldon and AW share 20 cM across 1 segment; predicted 5th-8th cousin; actual 3rd cousin (1x removed)
      • The lineage from AW to MRCA is AW<-Wendy Tainsh<-Stanley Tainsh<-Gertrude Ilett<-Daniel Ilett<-Elizabeth (Long) Ilett<-Susannah Follett (MRCA).
    • Weldon and JB share 29 cM across 3 segments; predicted 4th-6th cousin; actual 3rd cousin (1x removed)
      • The lineage from JB to MRCA is JB<-Allison Barfield<-Vivienne Ilett<-Stanley Ilett<-Philip Ilett<-Elizabeth (Long) Ilett<-Susannah Follett (MRCA).
  • Other auDNA evidence is documented in Elizabeth's other sibling profiles, where Ancestry family trees were matched up with each other, and then integrated with auDNA segment inheritance. The result is a shared tree compatible with DNA evidence, culminating with a recent shared segment of significant length between DNA-tested descendants of Elizabeth's siblings, John, William, Amelia, and Simeon, in addition to Charles and Phillip, noted above.
  • Mitochondrial DNA: Through genetic testing by her g-g-grandson, Elizabeth has been identified as mtDNA haplogroup U5b1c2, a western European subclade of haplogroup U5, found in Southern Europe (Portugal and Italy) among mesolithic Western European hunter gatherers (WHG). U5 itself is an ur-European mitochondrial signature, likely comprising the majority of the female population of Western Europe 40 thousand years ago.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

For your DNA confirmation statement: Because the matching test takers are more distantly related than third cousin, you will need to use triangulation. See this part of the DNA confirmation instructions:

I've changed the 'confirmed with DNA' entry to 'confident'. Please add the correct documentation before changing it back to 'confirmed with DNA'. Thanks!
