Biography

Allan was born in 1881. Son of Michael and Jane Long (nee Brownlow). The Long family were well known residents of Castlereagh. Allan's father, Michael was at one time Mayor of Penrith. Allan Long was a successful Orchardist. He passed away in 1939. (Nepean Times) 8 June 1939 OBITUARY MR. ALLAN LONG. Mr. Allan Long a well-know and esteemed resident of Castlereagh, died in hospital in Sydney on Sunday at the age of 58 years. Deceased was the son of the late Michael Long, Mayor of Penrith for a number of years and one who was prominent in affairs of the community over a number of years. Mr. Allan Long was a successful orchardist, being noted for the quality of his fruit. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Ann daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. Izzard of Penrith - 2 daughters Rene (Parramatta) and Jean (Mrs. A.E. Luxford Penrith) and a son, Bruce. Sisters of the deceased are Maud (Baulkham Hills) and Jessie (Mrs. C. Willett, Parramatta). Mr. Claude Long, of Springwood, is a brother, and half-brothers are Mr. George Long (Haberfield) and Mr. Charlie Long (Bathurst).Mrs. Dorahy (Mary Victoria) and Mrs. T. Heathcote (Elizabeth, Sydney) are half-sisters. The Funeral took place on Monday, the Internment being in the Methodist Cemetery, Castlereagh. The Service was conducted by Rev. P.H. Curtis.
