DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Long-29327 and Langen-143 do not represent the same person because: Different locations, different parents.

Langen-143 and Long-29327 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, same wife. Parents are unproven and are listed in Research Notes.
Langen-143 and Long-29327 are not ready to be merged because: There is still the question of the passenger list from the Charming Betsy (or Charming Betty), the ship that arrived in 1733 with the Long family on board. Johannes, age 45, Johannes Jr., age 15, and Johan Georg, age 1 (among other family members, including presumed wife, Anna, age 36). We have three John Longs here, and I'm not entirely sure about this merge.

Am I missing something? Is this not true: They clearly are the same man. They married the same woman. The question of who is his father does not negate this. Please help me understand if I have missed something.

You are welcome to detach Elias and Anna if you find the evidence is stronger for the Charming Betsey family. In this case I would support leaving the parents blank.

Any concerns can be stated in Research Notes.

The merge cannot be postponed indefinitely. ~ Deb

I agree with you that these two profiles refer to the same man. If he were born in Germany as a Langen, immigrated as a minor with his family, settled in Jefferson Twp where he eventually became a miller, married and bore a male child named named after him (Johannes), anglicised his name to John Long, had other children including a John William 13 years after Johannes, it would all make sense. Male kids not infrequently have their father's first name and go by their second name or become a 'Junior'. The mixup in names, birth places and dates seems quite common among immigrants speaking another language. Go ahead and merge as far as I'm concerned.

I've posted a request on the profile of Elias (Lang) Long Sr. (1691-bef.1764) to detach him and his wife as the parents. This must be done by the Palatine Migration WikiTree project, since that profile is project protected. ~ Deb
Langen-143 and Long-29327 appear to represent the same person because: I consider Johannes Langen the name at birth in Germany, with John Long as the eventual preferred name in PA, and the earlier death date as most likely, the later one being connected with probate.

Long-29327 and Long-2814 appear to represent the same person because: Children are the same; merges are pending. Merge should be completed unless there's evidence of 2 separate families. ~ His Parents are different; unless there are sources they should be detached. Please add Research Notes as needed to define possible parents for future researchers.
