Biography

Emma Jane Long was born in 1848 in Ohio, probably in Athens Ohio, daughter of Daniel Long and Rachel Martel. [1]

In 1860 Emma was living with her family in Washington, Marion, Iowa (Daniel Long 41,Rachel Long 40, Nicholas Long 19, Peter Long 17, Mary A Long 15, Enma J Long 13, Martha A Long 11.Elizabeth Long 4.) [2]

Emma Long married Sanford Ransom Day on 14 Feb 1864 in Gosport, Marion Co., Iowa. In the 1870 census she was listed as head of house, age 22, with Inferred Spouse Sanford Day age 39, and Inferred Children: Louvina Day age 2 and Rachel A Day age 1m. [3]

In 1880 Emma and Sanford are in Dexter, Cowley, Kansas with 4 daughters, (Sanford Day, 52, b Virginia; Emma Day (wife) 32, b Ohio; Luvinney Day (Dau) 12 b Iowa; Rachel A Day (Dau) 9, b Kansas; Hattie Day (Dau) 7, b Kansas; Elsie Day (Dau) age 0, b Kansas.

In 1890 Emma is shown as wife of Sanford with 4 daughters and 1 son (Harry) in the Oklahoma, Territorial Census, 1890. [4]

In 1892 Emma J. Long's spouse, Sanford Day, passed away. Emma J (Long) Day apparently remarried to a Long as she is shown on the 1910 census as Emma L. Long with spouse Josiah Long, for both a 2nd marriage. [5]

20 Jul 1912 was the death date of "Emma J. Long". According to a WT mail from the Profile Manager, Bill Meigs, the place of death was Hatfield, Polk, Arkansas but he stated she was buried in Piedmont, Canadian, Oklahoma. Burial stated by PM is the same cemetery as burial for her 1st husband per Find A Grave. [6]

Research Notes

Adams-16917 19:31, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

  • Death place and burial place seem illogical as they are over 3 hrs (2018 driving time) apart.
  • Burial place cited on FAG is the same place as that for her 1st husband. Her last husband lived until 1934 and is buried in a different cemetery.
