Samuel Long's will was dated Feb 14, 1739 and probated on May 6, 1740 in Saint George Parish, Spotsylvania County, Va. (Culpepper was formed from Spotsylvania County). His brother James was named executor of the will. (Will Bk A, pg 310 -311) His wife Mary and children shown are Bromfield, Mary, Elizabeth. Wit:Thomas Ship, Thomas Morris, & William Perry. Samuel Long bought 70 acres of land from John Miller Jr of St. Mary Parish, Caroline County on June 28, 1735. Family tradition says that Samuel, James and another brother came from France in the late 1600s and settled in Pennsylvania. They later migrated to Spotsylvania County, Virginia.
