Note N1087[Familytree1.GED] Kenneth Rollie Long, son of H. R. and Eunice (Mahin) Long was born May 4, 1911 at Bowdon, N. D. He grew up in the Bowdon and Heaton areas, where he received his education. As a young man, he was employed on his uncle's farm near Tappen, N. D. and later worked at the Corner Garage in Hurdsfield and the Ford Garage in Bottineau. On April 30, 1938 he was married to Beulah Patrie at Leola, S. D. They made their home and farmed south of Hurdsfield until 1941, when they moved to a farm south of Bowdon, where they have resided since. Kenneth continued to farm until retiring due to ill health. His family, church, music and education have always been an important part of Kenneth's life. He was a member of the Nazarene Church in Hurdsfield and most recently was a member of the Bowdon Community Church of God. He served both churches as song leader, soloist and Sunday school superintendent for many years and was past president of the Wells County Sunday School Association. He was also active in community affairs, serving as clerk of Haaland Township for 50 years, Wells County Farmers Union board member for 40 years, and a past member of the Bowdon School board. He was a member of the community choir and often served as emcee fore community events such as talent shows. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Beulah; three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and LeRoy Dockter of Fargo, ND, Eileene and David Swardstrom of Naperville, Ill. and Alice and John Westby of Velva, ND; a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Patti Long of Heaton, ND; 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; John and Darla Dockter and son Mitchell, Kenneth and Traie Dockter and daughter Kaija, Melanie Dockter, Paul and Marcia Swardstrom, Elizabeth and David Baker, William and Sarah Swardstrom, Matthew Swardstrom, Josh and Susan Nannenga, Faye Nannenga, Devin Long, Travis Long, Joanna Westby and Philip Westby; a brother, Lewis Long of Cape Coral, Fla; and a sister, Naomi Long, Nampa, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rev. Arthur Long and LeRoy Long. Kenneth passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at Fargo, ND at the age of 90 years.
