John was born in 1846.

1880 US Federal Census for Butler County, Kansas

1880 US Federal Census for Kansas, Butler, Douglas. John M. Long (age 33, born in Ohio) and Arloa J. Long (age 34, born in Ohio) were living in Douglas Township with their daughter Hannah M. age 5. Douglas Township, now located in Jackson County, is small and covers an area of 64 square miles. The streams passing through the township are the Middle Fork Muddy Creek and Spring Creek. Hoyt is the only town in the township. The township contains four cemeteries: Hoyt, Hoyt, Mayetta and Steward.

1900 US Federal Census for Logan County, Oklahoma

1900 US Federal Census for Oklahoma, Logan, Guthrie, District 136, page 70. John M. Long (age 54, born May 1846 in Ohio) and Arloa Long (age 53, born September 1846) were living in Guthrie, Logan, Oklahoma. Both John's and Arloa's parents were born in Ohio. John and Arloa were married in 1870. Arloa was the mother for four children and at the time of this census only one was still living. John was a carpet weaver by trade. Wilburn (b Aug 1874) and Mabel (b Sep 1874) Johnson are listed on the next several lines of the census with their daughter Dela (born Jan 1891). Mabel is the daughter of John and Arloa. Wilburn was born in Kansas, his father in Ohio, and his mother in Virginia. Arloa, her mother and father were born in Ohio. Dela was born in Oklahoma.

He passed away before 1920.
