Biography

Virgil Patton Long, son of William Henry Long and Florence Beatrice (Lumpkin) Long, was born on 31 March 1894 in McLennan County, Texas[1] or Hubbard, Hill County, Texas.[2][3] He appeared on the census of 1 June 1900 in the home of his parents at Austin Ward 5, Travis County, Texas.[4] He appeared on the census of 19 April 1910 in the home of his parents at Justice Precinct 1, Denton County, Texas.[5]

He married Mary Lois Cobbs,[6] daughter of John Allen Cobbs and Sarah Frances (Moore) Cobbs, by about 1916. He was a farmer and reported that he was married and had one child when he registered for the WW I draft on 5 June 1917 at King County, Texas.[7] Virgil and Mary were divorced or at least separated by 1920. He was a laborer on a ranch and reported as being single when appeared on the census of 1920 at Wisdom, Beaverhead County, Montana.[8]

He married Ima Gene Rupe,[1] daughter of John Newton Rupe and Effie M. Rupe, by about 1924. Virgil and Ima were divorced or at least separated by 1930.

He was reported as being single when he appeared on the census of 14 May 1940 in the home of his parents at Los Griegos, Bernalillo, New Mexico.[9]

Virgil died on 5 August 1940 at Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico and was buried at Sunset Memorial Park, Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico.[3] His memorial has a photo, biographical material and links to those of family members.[1]
