Biography

Martha Lorane Long was born 27 Mar 1839 in Fairfield County, Ohio;[1] [2] she was the daughter of Jacob Long and Eliza Frutchie.[1]

In 1850,[3] Martha Long (age 11, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Hancock County, Ohio in the household of her father, Jacob Long (age 33, born Ohio), with her mother, Eliza Long (age 38, born Pennsylvania), and her Long siblings, born Ohio (age, sex): i) Sarah (17, F), ii) Mary Ann (13, F), iii) Hester Ann (8, F), iv) Ruth (4, F). Jacob's occupation was a farmer; he owned real estate valued at $800.

On 8 Oct 1859 in Hancock County, Ohio,[2] Martha Long married Jacob Heistand [sic].

In 1860,[4] Martha L. Heistand (age 21, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Hancock County, Ohio in the household of her husband, Jacob Heistand [sic] (age 26, born Ohio), with their son, John A. Heistand [sic] (age 0, born Ohio). Jacob's occupation was a carpenter; he owned personal estate valued at $150.

In 1870,[5] Martha E. [sic] Heastend [sic] (age 33, born Ohio) was living in Liberty Township, Hancock County, Ohio in the household of her husband, Jacob Heastend [sic] (age 36, born Ohio), with their Heastend [sic] children, born Ohio (age, sex): i) John A. (10, M), ii) Theodore (8, M), iii) Ephram (6, M), iv) Jacob L. (5, M), v) Eliza J. (3, F), vi) Mary E. (9/12, F). Jacob's occupation was a carpenter; he owned personal estate valued at $800.

In 1880,[6] Martha Heistend [sic] (age 41, born Ohio) was living in Madison Township, Jasper County, Missouri in the household of her husband, Jacob Heistend [sic] (age 47, born Ohio), with their Heistend [sic] children, born Ohio except as noted (age, sex): i) John (20, M), ii) Theodore (18, M), iii) Ephraim (16, M), iv) Jacob L. (15, M), v) Elisa J. (12, F), vi) Mary E. (10, F), vii) Leroy (6, M, born Missouri), viii) William (2, M, born Missouri). Jacob's occupation was a farmer. The 4 older boys all worked on the farm.

On 30 Jul 1898,[7] Martha Hiestend's husband, Jacob Heistend, died and he was buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, USA.

On 16 Sep 1898,[8] Martha L. Hiestend applied for the military pension of her late husband, Jacob Heistend, based on her then being his widow.

In 1900,[9] Martha Heistend [sic] (age 61, widowed, born Mar 1839 in Ohio) was living in Madision Township, Jasper County, Missouri as head of household with her Heistend [sic] children, (age, sex, marital status, birthplace): i) Jacob L. (35, M, S, Ohio), ii) Eliza (33, F, S, Ohio), iii) Laroy (27, M, S, Missouri), iv) William L. (21, M, S, Missouri), v) her son-in-law, William Daugherty (22, M, M, Missouri), vi) her daughter, Cora Daugherty (18, F, M, Missouri). Martha had born 9 children, all of whom were currently living. Her occupation was a farmer. Jacob's occupation was a farm laborer. Laroy's occupation was a miller. Both Williams' occupations were farm laborers.

On 23 Jan 1902 in Jasper County, Missouri, Laroy Heisten married Alice Hosey.

Martha Lorane (Long) Heisten (age 73 years, 5 months, 4 days) died on 31 Aug 1912 in Madison Township, Jasper County, Missouri,[1] and she was buried in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, USA.[10] The cause of death was pneumonia of 3+ weeks duration, with contributing factor of senility. Martha was born on 27 Mar 1839 in Fairfield County, Ohio; her parents were Jacob Long (born Pennsylvania) and Eliza Frutchie (born Pennsylvania). Martha's usual occupation had been housework; she was widowed at the time of her death. The informant for the death certificate was John Heisten.
