Biography

Susannah was born about 1664 in Barnstable, Massachusetts,[1] to Barnabas and Susanna (Clarke) Lothrop. Alternative name Susanna Lathrop.

She married William Shurtleff Oct 1683, and they settled in Plymouth.

She died 1726 and was buried August 1726 at Cole's Hill, Plymouth, Massachusetts (The first burying lot of Plymouth Puritans).

"Susanna Lothrop, b. in Barnstable, Feb. 28, 1663/4; d. in Plympton, Mass., Aug. 9, 1726; dau. of Barnabas and first wife, Susanna (Clarke), who were m. in Plymouth, Dec. 1, 1658. Susanna Clarke, b. in Plymouth, 1641 ; d. in Barnstable, Sept. 28, 1697 ; dau. of Thomas and Susanna (Ring), who were m. 1634. Susanna Ring was dau. of widow Mary Ring. Thomas Clarke d. in Plymouth, Mar. 24, 1697, aged 98 yrs. (see under No. 1). Barnabas Lothrop, bapt. in Scitu- ate, Mass., June 6, 1636; d. Oct. 26, 1715; son of Rev. John and second wife, Ann. John Lothrop, M. A., curate of Egerton, County Kent, bapt. in Etton, East Riding of Yorkshire, Eng., Dec. 20, 1584; buried first wife in Apr. or May, 1634; came to Boston in the Griffin (arriving Sept. 18, 1634) ; settled first at Scituate, Sept. 27, 1634, as the first pastor of that place and afterwards at Barnstable in Oct., 1639 ; d. in Barnstable, Nov. 8, 1653 ; son of Thomas and second wife, Mary, who was buried in Etton, Jan. 6, 1588. Thomas Lowthrope of Cherry Burton, d. 1606; son of Robert and Ellen, who d. 1572. Robert's will was dated at North button hole), July 16, 1558, proved at York, Oct. 20, 1558; he was son of John Lowthrope of Cherry Burton."[2]
