Biography

Research Notes

Orman's wife's name varies from census to census. It is given as Cornelia and Amelia but the age remains consistent with his so it does not appear to be two different women. The niece who lived with them was indexed as Quilee, LuLu and Emilee Hubbard on three different census. I did not find a consistent record for her.Maltby-309 15:52, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Orman was born on 3 Jun 1805 in Malta, Saratoga, New York.[citation needed] He was the son of Abram Lothrop and Sally (Carpenter) Lothrop.[citation needed] In 1855 he and his wife Amelia and four children were living in Granby, Oswego County, New York.[1] He listed his occupation as a Methodist clergyman. A Hancock family, living next door, also were recorded as being in a Methodist clergyman's family. Possibly it was a church owned home.

In 1860 he and his family had moved on to Hannibal where he was ministering to the church. Also in the household were his wife, Cornelia, 51, daughters Lacuin, (correct name is Lucretia) 25; Emma, 12; and Ella, 7; and son Charles D., 10.[2]

By 1870 Orman, 65, and his son Charles, 20, were farming in Volney, Oswego County, New York. His wife, Amelia, 61 was keeping house for the family which included daughters Lucretia, 40, and Ella, 16. Also living with them were Quilee Hubbard, 5, (born in Mississippi) and Mary Bruce, 16, (born in New York) who was attending school.[3]

Orman returned to the ministry in Olney by 1875. Included in the household was his wife, Cornelia, 66; daughters Lucretia, 45 and Ella, 22; and son Charles, 25, who now was attending college. Also living with them was a niece Lulu Hubbard, 10.[4]

He returned to farming, at the age of 75, in Volney. Cornelia, 71, Lucretia, 45, and Ellen,26, remained in the household. Also listed was the niece Emilie, 15.[5]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Orman by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Orman:
