Note: {geni:about_me} He was a husbandman. Most sources give his father as William Loving, but this seems to have been an extrapolation from the name of his brother. He seems to have been the son of Gabriel Loving.

In 1811 he posted bond for the marriage of his daughter Mary to Abraham Alloway. The record does not give the bride's surname or specify the relationship, but John Loving's will names his daughter Mary Alloway. This marriage was recorded in Burke and Allegheny Counties, North Carolina. Because the Alloway family was living in Burke County, the Loving family was probably living in Allegheny County. John Loving and his family moved to Indiana between 1816 and 1822. They settled first in Owen County, and then about 1831 in Monroe County, where John died.

His will named his wife Lory Loving, sons Taylor, Reubin, William, Lot, and John, daughters Delphy, Lettie, Lory, Mary Alway, Delilah Wakefield, and Elizabeth Tucker. He left all of his real and personal property to his wife "to raise her infant children." At her death it was to be equally divided among his children, except Elizabeth Tucker who was to receive $10. As executors he named his brother William of North Carolina, his son Taylor, and Joseph Gilbert. The will was witnessed by Nathaniel Clark, Francis Hickman and Robert Blair.
