Research Notes

Arthur Howland made out his will on 3 July 1674. He was buried 30 October 1675 at Marshfield, Massachusetts, and his will was proved 7 March 1675/6 at Plymouth Colony. In his will, he names his wife Margaret; children Arthur, Mary Williamson, Martha Damon, and Elizabeth Low [grandmother of Lydia Low]; and his grandchildren Assadiah Smith “and her three brothers” and Timothy Williamson; and his wife’s grandchild Mary Walker. Widow Margaret Howland made out her will on 19 January 1683/4, and she was buried on 22 January 1683/4. An inventory of her estate was taken on 25 January 1683/4. Lydia Daughter of Mary Low received Baptism _ 13 January 1722/3

Job Low. Brother of Daniel. Possible illegit child of widow Elizabeth (Howland) Low of Marshfield, chose Benjamin Phillips as his gardian in 1691 when he was 14 or over.

Settled in Wells and married there on 4-17-1701 to Mary Wormwood, who was baptized on profession of faith 6-23-1706 and admitted to church 4-22-1722.

He had a gr. [grant] of land in 1701, and in 1714 the 50 acres gr. [grant] To his brother Daniel which had lapsed, was given him by the town. List 269c. Jury 1714. Liv. [Living] in 1730 when he deeded half his homestead to his eldests son, William.

Lydia Low was christened on 13 January 1722/23 in Wells, York County, Maine.1 She was the daughter of Job Low and Mary Wormwood.1 Lydia Low was admitted to full communion on 28 February 1741/42 in Wells, York County, Maine.1 On 13 December 1743 Lydia, at age 20, married Samuel Cane, in Wells, York County, Maine.1
