Col. Vincent Lowe, Esq., third son of Vincent Lowe, Esq. and Anne Cavendish,[1] was baptized at Denby, Derbyshire on 30 September 1632.[2][3]
In 1670, Vincent immigrated to Maryland and settled there on Great Choptank Island in Talbot County.[1][2] He was styled "Gent." on his arrival to the colonies and was using the suffix "Esq." by 1677.[1] Vincent was a planter and an attorney:[2] he was admitted to the Provincial Court and the Chancery Court in 1670.[1]
Offices Held
Vincent served as a legislator in the Upper House 1681-1682, 1682-1684, and 1686-1688. He held the Provincial offices of Attorney General 1670-1676, Council 1679-1689, Justice of the Provincial Court 1679-1689, surveyor general 1679-1683 and 1685-1692, and he was on the Board of Deputy Governors 1684-1689. He held the local office of sheriff of Talbot County from 1676 to 1679 and had the military ranking of colonel by 1676.[1]
Because Vincent was of the Catholic faith, he lost all posts in 1689 except his position as surveyor general, which was a proprietary appointment.[1]
Lands
At the first election in Maryland, Vincent held 4,500 acres, including 1,200 inherited by his wife in 1674/5. By his death, he held over 13,000 acres.[1]
Marriage
Vincent married Elizabeth Foster, daughter of Seth Foster[1] and Elizabeth _____. Elizabeth was much younger than her husband: she was born in 1658. The couple had no issue.[2]
Death and Will
Vincent died testate in 1692, leaving a will dated 14 December 1691 and proved 20 October 1692.[4][5] He left personal property valued at £263.14.6 (including 2 servants) and over 13,580 acres of land.[1] Vincent's will names his wife, Eliza, eldest daughter of Seth Foster. Vincent also directed in this will that the land in Denby, Derbyshire that he had received from his mother Anne was to go to his brother, Nicholas Lowe.[6]
Vincent's widow remarried before 1694 to Col. William Coursey.[1][2] She died in 1726.[2]

See Base Camp for more information about Magna Carta trails. See the project's glossary for project-specific terms, such as a "badged trail".
The Magna Carta project has identified a potential Magna Carta line for this profile that lies between Gateway Ancestor, Vincent Lowe and Surety Baron Richard de Clare. As a member of the Magna Carta project I will be developing the trail from Vincent Lowe to the Magna Carta surety baron, Richard de Clare.
