Translation: "On the 10th Sunday after Trinity 1740, as on August 12th, was baptized Theiß, son of Johann Theiß Lauer and his wife Anna Marie of Unnau, who was born on August 12th. Godparents were: Theiß Dencker of Hardt; and Eva Marie, the wife of Hans Gerhard Schütz of Unnau."
Emigration to America
Matthias Lauer migrated from Holy Roman Empire to Colonial Pennsylvania.
Matthais was part of the Johann Matthias "Theiß" Lauer family that emigrated to Colonial America in 1753. They left their home village and made their way to Rotterdam, Holland, together with a group of likeminded friends and relatives. They departed on board the Snow "Rowand" under the command of Capt. Arthur Tran, and after a stop at the port of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, England, crossed the Atlantic Ocean and arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 29th 1753. [2][3]
For more detailed information about the voyage and his ship mates, including some information about the reasons of taking such a challenging trip, see the research project about the "Rowand".
Life in America
The identification of Anna Catharina Gro as Matthias' wife lacks a marriage record and is more a matter of deduction. See Catharina's profile for the detailed reasoning. Given establishment of this identity, Anna Catharina Gro married Matthias Lauer and their children included:[4]
John Conrad (twin), b. 20 Mar 1764, bp. 31 Mar 1764, York County, Pennsylvania[5]
Anna Mary (Anna Maria) (twin), b. 20 Mar 1764, bp. 31 Mar 1764, York County, Pennsylvania[6]
