John Lucas was born before 1710, in Cople Parish, Westmoreland county, Virginia, the son of Charles Lucas (1668-1718) and Temperance (Smith) Lucas.

Before 1730, John married Anne (?nee), born before 1714, died after 1741, in Truro Parish, Fairfax county, Virginia.

WESTMORELAND COUNTY, VIRGINIA DEEDS & WILLS. No. 8. Part 1 1723-1738 {Antient Press}: pp 1 THIS INDENTURE made the Twenty Eighth day of October in the Twelfth year of the Reigne of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Brittain. France and Ireland. King, Defender of the faith &c., And in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight between JOHN LUCAS of the Parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland, Cooper, and ANN his Wife of the one part and GEORGE TURBERVILE of the Parish and County aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife in consideration of the sum of fourteen hundred and fifty pounds of tobacco and one choice Negro man slave, as also one hundred acres of Land in the County of PRINCE WILLIAM above the FALLS of POTOMACK RIVER and for other considerations to them, the said JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife paid given and allowed or secured, the Receipt whereof the said JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife doth hereby acknowledge, by these presents doth exchange bargain sell and release unto GEORGE TURBERVILE his heirs all that parcel of land containing by estimation One hundred acres, be the same more or less, situate in the Parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland and is part of a tract of land on the ( ) of NOMINI, granted to JAMES HAWLEY for seven hundred acres by Patent bearing date the sixth day of June one thousand six hundred and sixty six; And from JAMES HAWLEY conveyed to HENRY HAWLEY by Deed dated the Twentininth day of February Sixteen hundred ( ) one and by HENRY HAWLEY the aforesaid One hundred acres of land be the same more or less was conveyed to SAMUEL MUNS by Deed bearing date the twenty fourth day of December sixteen hundred seventy three. and by SAMUEL MUNS in and by his last Will and Testament bearing date the fifth day of March in the year of our Lord sixteen hundred and ninety given and devised to CHARLES LUCAS, who dying without making any Will or otherwise disposing of the One hundred acres of land, be it more or less. the same descended and became the proper Estate right of JOHN LUCAS, his Son, partie to these presents, as may appear by the several writings on the Records of Westmoreland County being thereunto had and is bounded; Begining at a marked Pohickory standing by the side of a Branch on the Swamp below the said TURBERVILEs Mill Dam, being the corner tree to a parcel of land formerly sold by the aforesaid LUCAS to JAMES ( ) and runing thence North thirty nine degrees East to a small red Oak in the line of a Grand Patent of HAWKINS to that part formerly claimed by ( ) ENGLISH and along that line to SORRELLs MILL SWAMP and up the said Swamp to an Antient ( ) and from thence runing upon an antient line of marked trees that runeth upon the North side of an INDIAN FIELD, which formerly went by the name of WITHERD to a large antient marked red Oak standing in an Old Field near HENRY LEEs Ditch and is a corner to the said LEEs land and from the said red Oak along a line of marked trees to the said TURBERVILEs MILL POND, and thence down the Mill Pond and Swamp to the first station containing by estimation One hundred acres be the same more or less and is the same Land whereon the said JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife now live together with all woods w-ays orchards commodities and appurtauces to the parcel of land belonging which JOHN LUCAS can now claim as heir at Law to his said Father, CHARLES LUCAS, deceased, To have and to hold the parcel of land and all other the premises hereby granted unto GEORGE TURBERVILE his heirs, free and clear from all incumbrances; In Witness whereof the said parties to these presents have interchangeably sett their hands and seals the day and year first above written Sealed and delivered in the presence of JOHN ATTWELL, JOHN SORRELL, JOHN LUCAS THOMAS MECKBOYD, ANN sign X LUCAS JAMES sign SCUTT, WILLIAM RIGHT Received this Twenty eighth day of October Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight of the within named GEORGE TURBERVILE fourteen hundred an d fifty pounds of tobacco, one choice Negro man slave and one hundred acres of Land being the consideration within mentioned Witness JOHN ATTWELL, JOHN SORRELL, JOHN LUCAS THOMAS MECKBOYD, JAMES sign SCUTT WILLIAM RIGHT Westmoreland ss. At a Court held for the said County the 31st day of October 1738 This Deed of Feofinent of Land passed from JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife to GEORGE TURBERVILE with Livery of Seizin and Receipt for the consideration on the saide Deed endorsed were all proved in open Court as the Law directs by the Oath of JOHN ATTWELL, JOHN SORRELL. THOMAS McBOYD and WILLIAM WRIGHT, witnesses thereunto subscribed all which at the instance of the said TURBERVILE are admitted to Record Recorded the 22d. day of November 1738 Test G. TURBERVILE, Cl Cur KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JOHN LUCAS of the Parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland, Cooper, am held and firmly bound unto GEORGE TURBERVILE of the Parish and County aforesaid, Gentleman, in the sum of Five hundred pounds current money of Virginia to which payment well and truly to be made I bind myself my heirs firmly by these presents; Sealed and dated the Twenty Eighth day of October in the Twelfth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland. King, Defender of the faith &c,, and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and thirty eight THE CONDITION of this Obligation is such that if the above bound JOHN LUCAS his heirs shall at all time hereafter well and truly observe perform and keep all the covenants and agreements which on his and their parts ought to be kept particularly mentioned and expressed in one Deed of Feofment for one parcel of Land containing by estimation One hundred acres be the same more or less scituate in the Parish and County aforesaid between JOHN LUCAS and ANN his Wife and GEORGE TURBERVILE then this obligation to be void and of none effect, otherwise to be and remain in full force power and virtue Sealed and delivered in the presence of JOHN ATTWELL. At a Court held for the said County the 31st day of October 1738 This Bond for Performance of Covenants passed irom JOHN LUCAS to GEORGE TURBERVILE, Gentleman, was proved in open Court as the Law directs by the Oath of JOHN ATTWELL, JOHN SORRELL, THOMAS McBOYD and WILLIAM RIGHT, witnesses thereunto subscribed, which at the instance of the said TURBERVILE is admitted to Record Recorded the 22d. day of November 1738
