Falling on my left leg crushing my ankle and breaking my sabre and cutting my leg above and below the knee. This happened on the last of April or the 1st of May 1865. Collins of the 3rd Kentucky was killed. Major Wolfley impressed a wagon and put me and Collins in it and sent us to Hopkinsville. I remained in the hospital until the last of June.
I was ordered to Bowling Green on the escort of Col. E H. Murray. While there contracted fever, again sent to the hospital the fever settled in my eyes rendering them very weak the rest of my life. My nurse while in the hospital was one of William Clark. Company G 17th Kentucky cavalry.
