Spencer Lucas was born in Newdigate on 9 August 1840, and baptised there on 6 September of the same year, he was the son of James Lucas and Elizabeth Flint[1]
He married Harriet Rowland in Newdigate on 2 April 1866, their fathers were recorded as HJ Rowland and James Lucas [2]
Spencer died in an accident in Newdigate on 29 August 1876, aged 36, whilst digging a well with his brother William. They had both descended into the well, and were overcome by poisonous fumes and suffocated. [3][4]
