William Lucas Jr. performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.

William Lucas Jr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A072234.

William Lucas, born circa 1720, in Virginia, resided in Orange county, Virginia, during the American Revolutionary War. Although he was not a member of the military, during the War, he did provide supplies in support of the Continental Army. [1] William is honored for Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as Ancestor #A072234. DAR records indicate that he died before August 23, 1813, in Orange county, Virginia.

Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of his daughters, Sarah Lucas, who married Joseph Martin; Agatha Lucas, who married Thomas Ferneyhough; Frances Lucas, who married John Ferguson; Molly Lucas, who married Adam Ehart; and of his son, William Lucas, who married Nancy Ann Burbridge. [2]

Researcher's Notes

William was likely born in Carolina, Co. Virginia where his mother and father were living as of 1730. Thereafter the family is found in Orange Co., Virginia. William Lucas, Jun. is mentioned along with his father as a plantation owner and road overseer in the road overseer appointment book of Orange Co., Virginia:

On the Petition of John Foster for an Order for a Road to be Cleared out of the Road below William Lucas Junr. over the Marsh Run the Most Convenientest way to the upper Church Ordered that John Jones & John Duglass do Veiw the same & make Report to the Court of the Convenience or Ill convenience Attending the Same.

22 February 1753 N.S., Page 411

On the Petition of William Lucas it is Ordered that the Road cleared by him Round his plantation be established the Public Road he putting the Same in good Repair and that the other way that went throgh his plantation be discontinued.

28 March 1754 N.S., Page 524

On the Petition of Edward Dearing Bradley Kimbrow, Willaim Gresham & Robt. Dearing for leave to clear A Rolling Road from the said Kimbrows into Mr. Madisons Road it is Ordered that Richard Barbour Philip Bush, William Lucas & Wm. Lucas Junr. or any three of them being first sworn before some Justice of this County do Veiw the Lands and way whereupon the said Road is purposed to be cleared faithfully & impartially, and that they make report thereof to the Next Court with the Conveniences & inconveniences attending the same .

William was named co-executor of his father's estate along with his brother Zachary in 1758.
