16 Aug 1879 Married to Helen Schmidt. The South Australian Register published the following notice: LUDLOW— SCHMIDT.— On the 16th August at Adelaide, by special licence, by the Rev. R. K. Finlayson, Joseph Ludlow, of Stepney, to Helen, eldest daughter of Mr. August Schmidt, of Adelaide.^[1]

This report appeared in the South Australian Register: KAPUNDA. June 22. An inquest was held to-day on Joseph Ludlow, who was yesterday accidentally suffocated by gas while making repairs to service-pipes at the Bank of Adelaide. Mr. James Elliott, J.P., was Coroner. The evidence was taken of the foreman of the service department of the Gas Company, Dr. Blood, Mr. J. A. Bruce, analytical chemist, and other witnesses, and a verdict of accidental death was returned, with a rider suggesting that the gas Company should have a stopcock outside premises, as in the waterworks system. The body was taken to Adelaide by the afternoon train. (5)

THE Friends of the late JOSEPH A LUDLOW are respectfully informed that his REMAINS will be Removed from his late Residence, Rundle-street, Kent Town, This Day (Friday), at 3 p.m., for the Payneham Cemetery. G. J. TREVELION. (4)
