Biography

Mary Clare (Ludwig) Arlotti, 68, of West Deer, formerly of Hampton, was peacefully called home to the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at her home, after a long struggle with cancer. She was born Aug. 12, 1936, in Pittsburgh to the late Matthew A. and Kathryn (Nestor) Ludwig. Mary Clare was a registered nurse and was active in Hampton Township political and civic activities and was instrumental in the creation of the Parkwood Meals on Wheels program. She also was extremely active in the work of St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Hampton, where she was a member, including the adult education, pre-marriage and marriage enrichment programs. She was a 1958 graduate of Duquesne University School of Nursing and maintained a close and active association with her nursing classmates. She also was active in committees for class reunions for St. Scholastica Grade School and Sacred Heart High School. Mary Clare brought joy and laughter to all who knew her and will be missed by all those she came in contact with. After months of valiantly fighting thyroid cancer and a multitude of other complications, Mary Clare demonstrated the ability to accept dying with grace and dignity. She will be lovingly remembered for her friendly, outgoing and humorous personality. She was the beloved wife of Mario "Gino" Arlotti for 44 years. She also is survived by sisters, Margie (Lou) Angelici, of St. Louis, Mo., Kathleen (Tom) Connelly, of Penn Hills, and Maxine Nethen, of Shaler; brother- and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Rita Arlotti, of Oakmont, Mary Arlotti, of Blawnox, and Emma Arlotti, of O'Hara; cousins, Peggy Dyson, Jack Hasslinger, Jack Coleman Nester and the Ludwig cousins; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers- and sisters-in-law, Sam Arlotti, Adolph and Margaret Arlotti and Joseph Arlotti. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the MATTHEW ARENA FUNERAL HOME P.C., 2702 Mt. Royal Blvd., Shaler, where a parish wake service will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday. A funeral prayer will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 2510 Middle Road, Hampton, with the Rev. John Marcucci officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary of the Assumption Cemetery, Hampton.
