Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough (c.1650-1721) was the son of John Lumley and Mary Compton.
He married on 17 Mar 1684/5 Frances Jones, a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary II and to Queen Anne (b. c. 1664; d. 7 Aug 1722; bur. at Chester-le-Street, Co. Durham) only dau. and heiress of Sir Henry Jones, of Ashtall, co. Oxford and Frances Belasyse. da. of Thomas Belasyse MP and Grace Barton (and sister of Thomas Belasyse, 2nd Viscount Fauconberg).
He was created Baron Lumley on 31 May 1681, Viscount Lumley 1689 and on 15 Apr 1690 Earl of Scarbrough.

Death
Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarbrough, 2nd Viscount Lumley, 1st Baron Lumley passed away on the 17th December, 1721 and was succeeded by his son Richard.
