Biography

Margaret Lyle was the daughter of Lord Robert Lyle and Margaret Houston.^[1]

She was contracted to marry Matthew Stewart 1471 and such marriage may have occured before 13 Jun 1480.^[2]

She married James Stewart of Blackhall bef 15 Apr 1491.^[3]

Research Notes

Douglas asserts that the mother was Elizabeth, daughter of Archibald, 4th earl of Angus and that Margaret Houston had no children.^[4] He also asserts that her husband was James Stewart of Blackhall.

The question of the marriage to Matthew Stewart is treated in "The Lyles of Renfrewshire".^[3]
