Biography

Elizabeth Lyon was born circa 1750, in Bladen county, North Carolina, a daughter of James Lyon and Zillah (Lucas) Lyon. Elizabeth married her cousin, Francis Lucas, born November 2, 1743, a son of her maternal uncle, Thomas Lucas. [1] Elizabeth and Francis were the parents of one son, Henry Lucas, who is remembered in his grandfather, Thomas Lucas' Will. Thomas Lucas made his will in Fairfax County, Virginia, on August 21, 1791, and it was proved in Court on September 21, 1795 [2] Francis was dead when his father, Thomas Lucas, made his will. It was Elizabeth (Lyon) Lucas to whom the Cockerells and McIntoshes made the deed in 1790:

  • On May 29, 1790, articles of agreement were made between Thomas Cockrill and "Million" his wife; and John Mackintosh and "Alcey" his wife; all of Fairfax county of the first part; and Elizabeth Lucas, widow of Bladen county, North Carolina of the other. Anne Vernon, widow late of Bladen county and now deceased, had by her last Will and Testament devised the plantation and tract of land containing 320 acres, where Elizabeth Lucas was currently living. This plantation, by the name of "Placenta Situate," in Bladen county, was inherited by her son, John Lucas for his life and after his death, was inherited by the children of her son Thomas Lucas of Fairfax county, Virginia, and their heirs. ... "whereas the said John Lucas is since dead ... the said Million and Alcey children of the said Thomas Lucas and devisees under the said Will ... have sold their respective rights unto Elizabeth Lucas, widow ... now for securing and protecting title to said Elizabeth ... etc. [3]
