Jonathan Lyon was a son of Abiel Lyon, born at Woodstock, Connecticut, on 28 September 1709.[1]
Pomfret, Connecticut, town records show that Jonathan Lyon and Elizabeth Sabin were married there on 29 April 1735.[2] However, town records show that Jonathan Lyon, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth, was born in Pomfret on 19 March 1731/2. Was there an error in the recorded year of the marriage (Lyons suggested in the Lyon Memorial that they might have married in 1731[1]) or did Jonathan have an earlier marriage (not recorded at Pomfret) to a different Elizabeth?
Elizabeth Lyon died in 1752, and Jonathan Lyon was married to Rebeckah Moseley in Pomfret on 10 May 1753.[3]
Jonathan Lyon died in Pomfret, Connecticut, on 22 August 1785.[3]

The Barbour Collection records show Jonathan, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth Lyon, as being born in 1732. There is also an Elizabeth, born in January 1733/4. Both of these are well before the 29 April 1735 date recorded for the marriage of Jonathan to Elizabeth Sabin. Also, the first son named Abiel (who died in infancy) is recorded as born on 10 May 1734, less than 3 weeks after the recorded marriage, and there is a Joshua, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth, born in 1756 -- after Elizabeth Sabin Lyon died.
