Biography

Amanda was the eldest dau. of John and Elizabeth (Brown) MacGregor of Harrington and half-sister of Jane MacGregor, wife of David's brother Isaac Foster.

Amanda married David Foster in 1876. ^[1]

At the residence of Mr. Geo. Bovyer, by the Rev. John M. McLeod, on the 25th Dec., Mr. David Foster, of Stanhope, to Miss Amanda E. McGregor of Charlottetown. The Presbyterian Dec 28, 1876 ^[2]

David died in 1902. ^[3]

David died in 1902, after his farm house in Dustaffinage burned, and Amanda and family went to live on a farm at Ten Mile House, bought by their sons.

The children were: Henry Edwin, 24, farmer; Hedley Victor, 19; Elmer H., 13; Ella May, 27; Leah Myrtle, 26; Edith Blanche, 21; Hester Pearl, 17; Sylvia Amanda, 9. ^[4]

When her son Elmer died at age 54, he was survived by his wife and two sons and two daughters, his mother, Mrs Amanda Foster of Dunstaffinage, three brothers, Edley of Charlottetown and Harry and John of Dunstaffinage; five sisters, Ella, Mrs Russel Pickard of Charlottetown; Pearl, Mrs John McCracken of Matheun, Mass; Leah, Mrs John Bell of Apopka, Florida; Sylvia, Mrs Charles Ellis of Donaldson and Edith, Mrs John Welsh of Dunstaffinage. ^[5]

She died in 1954. Guardian Monday July 26, 1954 FOSTER-At Ten Mile House on. Saturday. July 24th. 1954. Mrs. David Foster in her 98th year. Resting at the MacLean Funeral Home from where the funeral will be held this Monday afternoon, service commencing at 2 o'clock. (Standard time). Interment Marshfield cemetery. Two of her sons, Elmer and Edley, had predeceased her.
