After her husband's death in 1900 she purchased 10 acres of her brother-in-law, John Alexander MacLeod's farm on South Sumas Road in Atchelitz BC and with the help of some of her children, built a large house which was known as Armdale house. It was originally planned that part of the house would be used by daughter Rachel as a convelesance home for patients recovering from surgery, but was never used in this way. After Jane's death in 1931, the house was occupied by daughter Rachel and after her death in 1936, it was occupied by daughter Catherine Emma's family until the property was sold about 1951/3.
