Birth Sarah 25 May 1820 in Donegal, Corker, (Killaghtee) James Micky and Elizabeth Cassidy. [1]

Sarah was born 25 May 1820 in Corker, Killaghtee, Donegal. She was the daughter of James MacKey and Elizabeth Cassidy.

Sarah emigrated from Ireland to New Zealand with her brother Hugh in 1841,

Sarah and Hugh “Mickey” sailed from Liverpool, England, to Sydney, Australia, on the United Kingdom, arriving on 7 September 1841.
Hugh and Sarah probably then sailed on board the Shamrock in 25 November 1841 for Auckland arriving on 12 December 1841

She married Richard Newdick circa 1843. They had 6 children.

Her husband passed away in 1867.

Three years later Sarah passed away quite suddenly, in 1870, at the age of between 48 and 50. [2] Her youngest child would have been aged just 13. She had, at the time of her death, been a patient of a lunatic asylum, and an inquest was conducted into her death on 21 June. After evidence was heard and an examination done by Dr Goldsborough, the jury's verdict was given as "Death from natural causes." [3] Her funeral was conducted by Rev Dudley two days later and her burial recorded in the Anglican St Paul's register. [4]

NEWDICK - On June 19th, at the Lunatic Asylum, Sarah Newdick, beloved wife of the late Richard Newdick, of Newmarket, aged 48 years. The funeral will leave Wellesley-street West, four doors below the Albion Hotel, on Wednesday, 23rd, at 3 o'clock p.m. Friends will please accept this invitation. (New Zealand Herald 21 June 1870, also published in Daily Southern Cross, Volume XXVI, Issue 4003, 21 June 1870)
