Biography
Uchtred (Macdowall) Macdowall VIIIth of Garthland was Killed in Action during the Rough Wooing at the Battle of Pinkie Cleugh.
Uchtred (Macdowall) Macdowall VIIIth of Garthland is a member of Clan MacDowall.
Uchtred, 8th of Garthland was the son of Thomas Macdowall, younger of Garthland and Isobell Stewart.
In 1512 he received a tack (lease) of lands from the Crown and again in 1517. In 1513 he was served heir to his grandfather.
He married Marion Stewart, daughter of Sir Alexander Stewart, 4th of Garlies and Elizabeth Kennedy. They had issue:
- John, 9th of Garthland d. 10 Sep 1547
- Alexander
- Eupham
- Janet, m. Thomas Hay 1572[1]
Uchtred died at the Battle of Pinkie.[1]
