Research Note
I think she may have married Andrew Sutherland and had a son John. The family were living in 1841 in Rock, very close to her brother Andrew. She was then age 50, her husband, a tailor, age 60 and son John age 25
In 1851 census she was age 69 and named Jane Sutherland and living in Badnellan, a widow and a lotter, born Clyne. With her were her children Ann, age 46, Chirsty age 44, a widow, Jessie age 23, and granddaughter Jane Waters, age 15, born in Olrig.
in 1871 Jane Sutherland was with her sister Ann Mackay living in Badnellan, Clyne. Ann was 81 and sister Jane was 85. Both were widows and annuitants. [2]
In 1881 son John was age 65, a crofter at Aultcraggie. His wife was Janet age 50. Daughters Jessie age 33, a housekeeper, and Eliza, age 20, a dressmaker. Also there was Alex McKay, grandson age 11
Janet also had a daughter Elizabeth who married Hugh Mackay. In 1881 she was living at West Clyneleish with her husband and she was age 69.
