Biography

He is noticed in Ferguson's work[1] as marrying the widow of John Davidson, a soldier of Major General Murray's Regiment, Janet Macdonald on 6 Mar 1709. The History of the Scots Brigade indicates that General Murray's Regiment was stationed at Courtrai while Colyear's was at Brussels. The marriage likely occurring at Courtrai.

He is stated to be a Corporal of Major General Colyear's Regiment on 6 Mar 1709. The History of the Scots Brigade indicates that General Murray's Regiment was stationed at Courtrai while Colyear's was at Brussels. Murray's Regiment had been in action steadily from the Battle of Oudenarde in July 1708 through to the capture of Lille in September and minor skirmishes thereafter. It would seem likely that John Davidson was killed at one of those.
