He was 83. He grew up in Rockland County, graduating from Congers High School in 1943. He served as a signalman in the Navy from 1943 -1946. While on LST 529, Ken was given the responsibility to deliver the notices to all LST ships regarding their initiation of the invasion at Normandy on D-Day. Fifty years later, Ken and his wife attended the anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. Ken worked as an electrician for 45 years at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. He was a proud member of the American Chemical Workers' Union, serving on the local Executive Board. Ken and Maria lived in Pearl River for 44 years in a home that they built on South Main Street. He was active in the community and was a member of the American Legions Posts (Pearl River and New City) for over 50 years. He and his wife actively participated in state and local Veteran's affairs and projects. One never needed to ask Ken twice to help out with any veteran causes; he was always the first one who volunteered. Ken was also an active member of the Rockland County Chapter of 40/8 Society. In 1995, Ken and his wife moved to Manchester, New Jersey. Ken spent his retirement years down by the Jersey Shore where he had enjoyed vacations for many years while his family was growing. Ken is survived by his caring wife of 61 years, Maria. He is also survived by his two loving daughters, Sandi Mackay (Manahawkin, NJ) and Linda Mackay-Morgan (Simsbury, CT), and sons-in-law Glenn Gorney and Dr. Anthony Mackay- Morgan. Ken is also survived by his two grandsons, Christian and Damian, who loved Opa dearly. Ken is survived by his older brother, Ed and was predeceased by five sisters. Ken enjoyed a wonderful Christmas celebration in Connecticut the day before his death with his whole family. Visiting is Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. The Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home. The burial will follow at the Frederick Loescher Veteran's Cemetery, New Hempstead, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John Secor American Legion Post 329, Railroad Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965. .
