Biography

The couple had a daughter Rosamond, born 4 October 1912 and died 18 August 2005 at age 92 who married William YOUNG. Rosamond, aka "Roz Young" wrote for Dayton Daily News for many years, published several books, went to Oberlin college, cared for her mother in her home until her mother's death. eventually she moved to xenia in an assisted living home.

her obituary in Dayton dailt news:

A former 30-year teacher in Dayton city schools, Mrs. Young was a columnist for more than 25 years at The Journal Herald and the Dayton Daily News. She also was an author of English textbooks and biographies for young adults. Affectionately known as "Roz" to readers of her Saturday columns opposite the editorial page of the Daily News, Mrs. Young described or explained a panoply of subjects, from murders to gardening. She often would follow up reader inquiries, like a literary detective. When she fell ill in July 2004, scores of her loyal readers sent get-well cards and story ideas to her room at Bethany Lutheran Village, Centerville, where she'd kept a large apartment for several years.

Mrs. Young's columns and books about her pet cat, Edith, attracted special attention and came to be associated with her perhaps more than her other work. "The cat had a very good press agent," grandson Chris Young, of New York City, said recently. A graduate of Dayton Steele High School and holder of two degrees from Oberlin College, Mrs. Young was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters by the University of Dayton in 1994. Miami-Jacobs College gave her its Distinguished Daytonian award in 1985. She was made part of Dayton's Walk of Fame in 2003.

Mrs. Young spent most of 25 years caring for her invalid mother, Isabel. She was married to YMCA executive William A. Young, a widower. He died Feb. 22, 1966, at age 79. Mrs. Young leaves her stepgrandchildren Christopher N. Young of New York; Jennifer Young of Atlanta; and Tod Young of Sedona, Ariz.

Mrs. Young was a member of St. George's Episcopal Church. She planned to be cremated and buried with her husband at Sugar Grove Cemetery, West Alexandria.
