John was the son of John Madden and Mary Molyneux. He was baptised on 12 July 1685 at St Catherine's, Dublin.
He was educated by Mr Hartlip of Dublin and entered Trinity College Dublin on 15 September 1702, aged about 14. B.A. 1707, Fellow 1710, M.A. 1710, B.D. and D.D. 1723. [1]
The King's Letter for his promotion to Dean of Kilmore is dated 16 January 1734 [Lib. Mun.]
He married in 1724 Deborah Cooke, daughter of Daniel Cooke of Dublin. [2]

He died in August, 1751; and was buried at St. Anne's, Dublin, of which parish he had been Vicar.
