Transcribed from HC Burleigh Fond's "The Madden Family Tree" "Robert carried dispatches from New York to Canada on foot. He was very active in the Rebellion. He was a large powerful man, six foot in height. He was taken prisoner and condemned to be hanged, but during the night he knocked the sentinel down, ran through a mill dam and took shelter in a little log house who's owner luckily was a loyalist. At another time the Rebels were chasing him and he hid in a hollow log and heard the men very near the log but they did not find him."
