James Madden, son of Patrick Michael Madden and Anna McManus - both natives of Ireland, was born about 1868 in Irishtown, Saint John county, New Brunswick, Canada.

Like the other members of his family, James was Roman Catholic by religion.

James wed Lillie Jane Boyd (1876–1963) on 10 October 1900 in Onawa, Monona county Iowa. [1] They had the following children:

  1. Juanita Lillie Madden, 1901–1985;
  2. Cecile Pearl Madden, 1905–1975;
  3. Eileen Anne Madden, 1907–1986.

In 1870 James Madden is recorded as being white, male, two years of age, and living in the household of his father in Sioux City, Woodbury county, Iowa. [2]

In 1880 James Madden is recorded as being white, male, twelve years old, single and living in the household of his father in Sioux City, Woodbury county, Iowa. [3]
