Biography

Charles William Maddox was born in Northland on the 22nd June 1860, his parents were Charles Maddox and Elizabeth Campbell. He used the name Charles Cameron Maddox in later life. [1]

In the 1881 Electoral Roll, Charles William Maddox is recorded as a farmer at Okaihau in the Bay of Islands. As Charles Cameron Maddox, he is variously listed as a Gardener, a Mill Hand, or a Bush Worker. In 1915, he was working away from his family in Ohakune, Taranaki. [2] In 1919, he thought of taking a job on the ship Paloona, but was prevented doing so by the court because of a maintenance order against him. [3]

In 1921, an advertisement appeared for unclaimed moneys, included in the list were Maurice Lonesney, Charles William Maddox and Cecilia Agnes Maddox [4] Was this from the estate of Charles William Jones, of Gwynfryn, Carmarthen [5]

Charles Cameron Maddox and Sophie Louisa Evelyn (Eva) Bailey were married 1897 in New Zealand

Charles was killed by tree falling on him and never recovered. He died at Waikato Hospital, Hamilton

Burial - 20 JUL 1923 in Hamilton East Cemetery aged 52; grave is Front-J-45 no headstone, just mowed grass. [6]

Maddox-1223 and Maddox-1321 appear to represent the same person because: Charles Maddox was registered Charles William Maddox, but he used the name Charles Cameron Maddox in later life.
